The museums of Mid-Troms and Senja region
Visit one of the 18 different heritage sites and other museum arenas of the region
Mid-Troms Museum is a trust, responsible for museums in the municipalities of Balsfjord, Bardu, Dyrøy, Målselv, Sørreisa and Senja.
The trust manages 18 different heritage sites and other arenas, ranging from museums which focus on specific themes and are open all year round, to local history museums which are open during local history days in Summer.
Our year-round open museums are:
Troms Defence Museum, Setermoen
Troms Defence Museum is dedicated to the military history in Troms, with particular emphasis on the Army. Important themes are the battle for Narvik and the Second World War. The museum also has exhibitions which focus on UN-led operations in the period 1947-2014.
Opening times autumn, winter, spring: Tues-Thurs 10am-3pm.
Opening hours for the summer season are fixed in May.

The Children's museum Mid-Troms in miniature, Finnsnes
Mid-Troms in miniature is a slightly different museum, especially designed for a young audience. In various experience zones, children and adults can try, learn and play with history together. The zones are inspired by authentic heritage sites managed by the trust. A visit to the Children's Museum can thus quickly lead to further exciting museum experiences in the whole region!
Opening hours, autumn, winter, spring: Sat-Sun 12-4pm.
Opening hours for the summer season are fixed in May.
Entrance:
Adults: NOK 150,-
Children age 0-15: Free entrance, must be accompanied by adults. Groups may book in advance on phone 477 67 730 or e-mail: milashja@mtmu.no.
The Fjord Museum in Balsfjord
The Fjord Museum is located at Storsteinnes, approx. 5 km from the E6. Exhibitions focus on natural history, with particular emphasis on the unique Balsfjord and the fascinating Sørkjosleira nature reserve. Our proximity to Sørkjosleira means that the museum area is a great location for observing bird life all year round. The museum also has exhibitions covering local history and culture, with emphasis on the harvesting of marine resources, both at home and in the High Arctic.

Lenvik Museum
Lenvik Museum is located in a former rectory, in idyllic surroundings at Bjorelvnes. Exhibitions focus on local history, with a natural emphasis on the place of religion, but there are also exhibitions focusing on the life of the farmer-fishermen in the old days. A new exhibition about Sámi history will open in 2024. Lenvik Museum also includes facilities related to the old coastal culture, with basic accomodation and traditional boats for hire during summer.
