From September to April you can experience the Northern Lights in the Senja region.
When bright, endless summer nights slowly move towards autumn, already at the end of August, Miss Aurora can start her magical, green dance in the dim evening sky. Day by day it gets just a little bit darker and from November 29th the Polar nights season is a fact, lasting until January 22nd.
Even though we imagine Aurora over a snow covered landscape, the Northern Lights are not connected to snow and winter. In fact, September can bring you luck, hunting the Northern Lights in the evening and wearing short sleeves during daytime. The autumn months before Christmas, can be very good for watching Northern Lights, as there are still bare grounds and in the daytime you will fall in love with the colorful canvas of the nature around you.
Staying in the arctic during autumn months let you experience the days getting shorter and the sun gets lower over the horizon, while polare low pressure builds up in the Atlantic, sending us gales and storms. Spectacular sunsets and sunrises gives you amazing light, combined with rapidly shifting sky, you should be ready to capture the moment with both your eye and camera. Eventually, snow sprinkles on the peaks, we get the first frosty nights and then the first snow cover. Along comes the fascinating «blue hour» with all shades of blue, gray and white in the last hour before darkness. Let your imagination float.
In the winter months, every day gets a bit brighter, already from January. For the best snowy winter experience, mid January to April are great. Join snowshoe excursions or join a guidet group of skiers, heading for mountain tops.
The Senja region, with it`s remoteness and wild nature, is for sure the best place to experience Arctic lights, Northern lights and Polare nights. Book packages and let one of the guides take care of your wellbeing, while you lean back and relax, waiting for Miss Aurora to swing her green veil across the night sky.
